You Say You See Me: A Soul’s Cry for Understanding
By: Kemi Amusan

You say you see me,
But what lies beneath the surface do you see?
Beyond the disguise of royal attire,
Do you behold the scars that I conceal with care?

You say you see me,
But who do you truly see?
A carefree soul or a heart that’s torn,
A smile that hides the anguish I’ve borne?

You say you see me,
But how do you perceive?
A woman strong, or one who’s lost control,
A facade of courage, or a soul that’s cold?

You say you see me,
But when do you truly look?
In fleeting moments, when my mask slips away,
And the shadows of my past come to stay?

If you wish to see me,
Then see me for real,
Beyond the illusions, the pretend, the veil,
See the depths of my soul, and the heart that feels.
