An Ode to Taurus
A poem for Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022)
The princess may vanish but God saves the Queen
Written by Oluwakemi Celina Amusan

What Queen is Aries if she’s beholden to mars
What Queen is Sagitta if she loves her Ptah
The lioness might be Queen but she has her sun
And since this is no contest for arms like men
Let the Queens of wand sit, their time is far
The Queens of swords may have their airs
But isn’t Gemini zodiac for gossip girls
Though manly, I know Libra is fine
but check her draws and might just find a rod
Aquarius brags but we know she’s owned
First by Saturn and now by Uranus
So, shouldn’t the patriarchs’ wives just sit this out
Let the Queens of swords save their thoughts
Let the Queens of wands hold their angsts
Through their decrees the world may shake
Through their passion the world may burn
I stand with Beth and Beth alone
The earthlings agreed and made her their Queen
They say the Queens of cups are beyond girly
But when Scorpio rises with her cups of sorcery
And Cancer rises with her springs of water
I see men again leading the dance
The Pisces one, a sea priest lost in his dream
Guys, guys, if you’ve got mars go back to sea
If you’ve got Ptah please join the waters
The moon may wait we like her springs
A war with cancer’s moon our Venus wages
In her hearth the empress casts her dice
And on Artemis horse her Venus hunts for spoil
But when night comes and the moon is lost
The stars tell us who won the fight
For in Taurus’s Garden the moon delights
Yes, it was rigged but the earth is hers
Let the Queens of swords save their thoughts
Let the Queens of wands hold their angsts
Through their decree the world may shake
Through their passion the world may burn
I stand with Beth and Beth alone
The earthlings agreed and made her their Queen
The Virgins protests, I feel their pain
But they’ve got hairy Hermes holding their flags
And when Capricorns climb down their hills
I find Saturn carrying their whips
Yes, Queens of pentacles you own the earth
But this Queenship belongs to women
Let the Queens of swords save their thoughts
Let the Queens of wands hold their angsts
Through their decree the world may shake
Through their passion the world may burn
I stand with Beth and Beth alone
The earthlings agreed and made her their Queen
Coast to coast they know her name
Race to race she has their jewels
The Queen of wands may steal my gods
The fires of Leo may burn my gold
But for the Queens smile I let them go
For this Taurean sun I will let peace reign
The Countries and Hillsides also were hers
On the wings of airs, she traveled the world
And crowned Diana the Queen of swords
From the drinks of waters, she quenched her thirst
And crowned Yonce the Queen of cups
In her regime did Oprah emerge
A Queen of pentacles unlike before
Let Madonna and Anika hold their wands
Across all worlds Betty rocked the most
Now in the air she dances with swords
Now in the fire she lights our hearts
In our waters we hold her beauty
The Queen might be gone but, in our heart, she lives
In the brightness of our smile and the gleam of our eyes
We touch our hearts and we feel her breath
We walk the gardens and we greet her still
Let Yonce rule the cups and her fields of ice
Let Oprah rule the airs and her bags of coin
But when lava disrupts and unhinge our dance
Must the princess vanish and the queen remain
wit the air of swords, she must chart her course
wit the wands of fire, must she proclaim her love
And nourish her youngs with the cups of grace
As she raises the hills that touch her stars
And sink the depths that hide her pearls
To warm the heat that scorch her gold
And dissolve the ethers that cycle her soul
She is a Queen of roses ‘cause she mastered the thorns
Give us the Cactus give us the Lilies
Give us the Corgis give us the Horses
And when the fires of change glaze our world
We will step up our Queens for our Highness awaits
The princess may vanish for God saves the Queen
