WHEN THE WELL RUNS DRY
A Poem by Kemi Amusan

When the well runs dry and the airs take their leave
Without the pretense and farce
Your sponsors will suffer your ass to be whooped
Your friends will turn to foes
and your family will throw you to wolves
When the well runs dry and your earth becomes scorched but you still got to be there
When the well runs dry and the dirty waters come home
Leave your vessels in the dungeon and dare your soul to soar
And hope life takes you places your comfort could never brave
And bring you gems your money could never buy
When the well runs dry and the leaves go brown
Without the pretense and farce
Your home will feel like a jungle
Your furniture may turn monstrous
and your shit will be out in the open
When the well runs dry and you come to the end of yourself
When the well runs dry and you feel stretched past your limit
Spread out your arms and give the care you need
And hope life takes you places your comfort could never brave
And bring you gems your money could never buy
When the well runs dry and you have grief for company
Without the pretense and farce
Angels will turn villainous
Strangers will become stranger
And your wounds will appear bolder
When the well runs dry and the leaves go brown
When the well runs dry and you just have to trust
Reach in the dark my friend, and shine a light with songs
And hope life takes you places your comfort could never brave
And bring you gems your money could never buy
Thanks
sending you my love
