The Wonders of a Wash; The Beauty of a Bath
By Oluwakemi Celina Amusan

In the depths of a wash, where waters cascade like tears
And the beauty of a bath, where secrets are whispered through the years
I gaze into the mirror, and a postman’s weary face appears
Handing me a letter, a message from my deepest fears

The wonders of a wash, the beauty of a bath, there my reflection lies
As Pat’s story unfolds, a tale of grief, of sorrow’s piercing cries
The waters swirl, a whirlpool of emotions, its face I behold
Like a woman’s strength, Roxy’s spirit, shining bright, a beacon in the cold

He looks into the mirror, and his pain he unleashes like a thunderstorm
I gaze into the mirror, and its frames shatter, like a heart that’s far torn
The wonders of a wash, the beauty of a bath, a transformation herein unfolds
A mirror breaking, a saint emerging, Mary’s spirit, young, and growing old

Like my true self beholden to water’s soothing embrace – reborn, renewed, radiant and remade
In the wonders of a wash, the beauty of a bath, I find my own way
To embrace my story, and to rise, anew -A phoenix from the ashes and the dawn of a brand-new day
Young Mary, evolving, unfolding, and growing into her wings and the voice of her own goddamn truth.
